Maria de Jesus Simões Barroso Soares, was born
in Algarve and married with Dr. Mário Soares, has two
children and 5 grandchildren. M. A. [History and Philosophy]
and a degree in Drama by National School of Arts [Conservatório
Nacional]; she is Doctor Honoris Causa by Lesley College of
Boston, University of Aveiro and University of Lisbon. She
received 28 decorations and other academic and distinctions
of honor among which we stress the importance of “Grã-Cruz
da Ordem da Liberdade” [Great Cross of the Order of
Liberty – Portugal [*]]. Teacher, member of Parliament,
founding member of Portuguese Socialist Party. She belong
to 35 national and international Organisations. She is President
of Pro Dignitate – Foundation of Human Rights and Foundation
Aristides de Sousa Mendes.
